Post 4 Civilization’s Immune System
Every living thing needs an immune system--something that detects what doesn’t belong and repairs what’s been damaged.
Civilization is no different. Its immune system is made of conscience, truth, and accountability.
Conscience reminds us that power is never a license for cruelty.
Truth exposes infection--the lies that let evil masquerade as righteousness.
Accountability is the hard medicine that keeps conscience and truth alive.
When any of these fail, the body politic grows sick. Propaganda replaces truth, loyalty replaces conscience, and punishment replaces justice. A civilization without its immune system can look healthy for a while, but the rot spreads quietly until collapse feels sudden.
Our defense isn’t complicated: tell the truth even when it’s inconvenient, listen to conscience even when it hurts, and hold ourselves--and our leaders--to account.
That’s what keeps the fever from turning fatal.
